I have been working on finishing my Masters degree of Science in Accounting. I started my program when my daughter turned 3 months and my oldest was 2. At first, I was going a little stir crazy because I went from being a working mom to a stay at home mom again and needed something to fill all my free time ( I’m kidding) Moms do not have free time! I truly missed school. I wanted to be able to be at home with my daughters and while they took naps have something I could be working on. Well, Graduate degrees are not as easy as I thought it would be. I’m currently a Grand Canyon State University student and I love the atmosphere and the school. It is 100% online so I can stay home with my daughters. However, this mom is tired!
Let me give you an idea of how I’m getting through school with two babies and a husband that works 60 plus hours a week and only has one day off a week. It takes patience. I would have to say that I sometimes forget that I can’t just sit down and start working on a deadline. I will have homework that needs to get done but I also have a teething baby and a toddler that seems to have meltdowns a little more than usual. My best advice is to be patient!
I figured out through this process having a plan is imperative. When I started my program I planned on having time to study during naps. When I signed up for school my daughters had the same nap time. Well, with different stages and sleep regressions that was not always the case.
I work on my school work at any given moment. It truly just depends on how the day is for my daughters. I also worked on getting them on a better schedule. Every day I give myself an hour of homework time during nap. Even tho sometimes they do not sleep at the same time I find ways to keep which ever one did not go down for a nap busy while I read a chapter. Since my husband only has one day off a week and he usually wants my undivided attention I work at getting all my school work done so we can have a family day. At about 9:30 p.m. I will bring out my laptop and start working on school. I have been doing great at school. I manage keeping up the house and keeping my daughters happy! If you’re thinking about going back do it! Just have a plan remember to not stress so much. You can do it!
